What brought you to your current role?
I used to sell newspaper ads before I moved to Boston. I wanted to continue working in sales, and I liked the idea of working in the staffing industry on both the client and candidate sides. I get to meet new people and network, which I love.
What also appealed to me about this job was the variety. I am always working on different things and with different people. My days are never repetitive. It’s fantastic to build relationships. As a member of the Finance and Accounting search team in Boston, I also love the fast pace of our industry.
So, you’re new to Boston. What brought you to the city?
I was raised in Canada, went to school in Michigan and lived in North Carolina for five years. My husband got his Ph.D. at UNC-Chapel Hill. We moved to Boston last March, and we love it!
I thrive on being busy, and the pace of city life is perfect for me. Boston feels like a small town, but it has the benefits of a city. It’s the first big city that I’ve ever lived in. My husband and I love the music scene here, and we love living near the water. We enjoy walking by the Charles River, hiking, kayaking, and trying new restaurants.
What’s your favorite restaurant?
The Italian food in this city is excellent. Our favorite is Giacomo’s—affordable, delicious Italian. Authentic, but not fancy.
How would you describe the Boston Kforce family?
People like to have fun, and they’re competitive, yet encouraging. Everyone has your back. This is the most tight-knit group I’ve ever been a part of. We work hard, and it brings us together.
I also have an affinity for our building. We are in the Federal Reserve Building in the center of downtown. I’m a geek about it. I love walking downtown to work every day.
What do you love about Kforce?
This is a place where people genuinely care about each other. I think having this conversation right now speaks to the values of Kforce—we are a people-first firm, and it shows that we care enough to get to know our employees. We go out of our way to appreciate and recognize them.
Do you have a mentor in the office?
Dan Jacob. His whole career has been at Kforce. He was an intern here, and now he’s the director of our team. He is the most positive and energetic person in the office. We sit next to each other, and he always has good advice. He’s a great friend and mentor.
I also admire many women on the search team across the country. They are rock stars!
What advice would you give to someone just starting their career?
Trust the path and the journey. Don’t try to rush ahead to the next thing. I know it’s cliché, but it’s true!
Also, let things go. Don’t dwell on the things you can’t change. At the end of the day, if I’m unhappy, I’m the only one that’s hurting—not anyone else.
