Through our Kforce American Job Report Card, we’re here to help navigate the job satisfaction scale so you can reach that A+ rating to proudly display on your fridge.

Why is job satisfaction important?

With 67% of job satisfaction survey respondents feeling it’s very important love your job, an A+ experience can make all the difference in for your organization. According to the American office workers surveyed, an astonishing 46% are willing to take a pay cut to purse a job that they are more passionate about. In fact, respondents would give up as much as 29% of their current salary just to be truly satisfied.

Employers today understand that success comes from great people who love what they do. “People are willing to make sacrifices or think beyond pure compensation to put themselves in a better situation. In return, employers are willing to make sacrifices for someone who’s passionate about their work,” described Kforce Client Relationship Executive Ryan Lynch.

The average American office worker anticipates that they are less than 5 years away from getting their dream job, and 62% believe that they could achieve this feat at their current company. Therefore, it’s vital for employers to build an atmosphere conducive to workplace satisfaction, allowing employees to reach their ultimate career goals.

What factors contribute to job satisfaction?

The top three attributes that are holding employees back from grading their current job an A+ is having schedule flexibility (52%), a feeling of fulfillment (51%) and a sense of value and accomplishment (51%). Additionally, when asked what trait they valued most in a leader, a resounding 69% of employees ranked trust above all else. A lack of trust can negatively tip the scale for dissatisfied employees on the verge of pursuing their next career opportunity.

Loyalty within an organization . “A lack of trust causes employee detachment and disengagement from the organization. If the breach of trust can't be rebuilt, turnover can occur. However, if leaders authentically own mistakes and work to remedy relationships, they have a shot at rebuilding confidence,” explained Kforce Senior HR Business Partner Michael Goodman.

Workplace dissatisfaction fuels consequence. Whether you’re an employee who is unmotivated and counting the seconds to clock out or a leader who is grappling with employee retention and low morale, it’s time to take action.
